Candidacy period for fire board elections announced

The candidacy filing period to run in the Nov. 3, 2009 elections for the board of the Anderson Fire Protection District would begin July 13 and close at 5 p.m. Aug. 7, according to Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Cathy Darling.

All five seats on the board would be up for election; three of which are four-year terms, and two seats are two-year terms. Winning candidates would then "draw straws or something like it" to determine who gets the various seating assignments, district secretary Karen Ellena said.

To run, candidates at large must be residents of the fire protection district and a registered voter residing in the district.

Interested candidates should call the county clerk to set up an appointment to file and learn about campaign finance, Darling said.

"We accept walk-in appointments, but there may be a wait," she added.
