Martial arts instructor and Lake California Resident Seong-Tae Kim took a group of 32 students from Redding Tae Kwon Do to Berkeley to participate in the 40th Anniversary University of California Tae Kwon Do Championships on May 30, 2009. Competing in Poomse (forms) and Gyoroogi (sparring), this group placed the majority of its members.
Gold medal winners for Poomse included Jeffrey Griffith, Andrew Bova, Hailey Tuttle, Isaac Park, Israel Sanchez, Luke Renard, Odom Ouk, Robert Hartsock, and Ryan Johnson. Silver medals were received by Dylan Fender, Brian Reuck, Harrison Collins, Jacob Sullivan, Jeremy Tuttle, Julio Valverde, Katie Collins, Reagan Collins, and Gary Royal. Bronze medals were won by Adam Ouk, Brayden Rawson, Danielle Hixenbaugh, Emily Sullivan, Jake Thomas, JD Day, Kayla Day, Morgan Collins, Richard Franks, and Timothy Herman.
Gold medal winners for Gyoroogi were Brandon Schlinger, Danielle Hixenbaugh, Isaac Park, Jacob Sullivan, JD Day, Julio Valverde, Katie Collins, Kayla Day, and Sean Fearington. Silver medals to Andrew Bova, Luke Renard, Darren Holmquist, Dylan Fender, Israel Sanchez, Jeremy Tuttle, Morgan Collins, Odom Ouk, Ryan Johnson, and Timothy Herman. Bronze medals winners were Adam Ouk, Brian Reuck, Brayden Rawson, Harrison Collins, Jake Thomas, Jeffrey Griffith, and Reagan Collins.
In only its second year of completion, this group of dedicated TKD students displayed the tenets of indomitable spirit and perseverance to take first place in the team competition for the tournament.
