GOLF BUDDIES:
John Almond, West Smith, Chuck Bononi and Rick Copus stop for a quick break during the Anderson Union High School golf tournament and fundraiser on Saturday, June 13. The tournament was held at Gold Hills Golf Course in Redding.

The Anderson Union High High School Centennial Golf tournament was the official start of celebrations for the schools centennial year.

The tournament, held at Gold Hills Golf Course in Redding, is helping to raise funds for the historic high school.

More than 140 Anderson alum, community leaders and other golfers filled the course for the occasion. They each participated in the tournament for $100. Four person teams had a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Golfers also enjoyed a hotdog lunch before the tournament, and were treated to a tri-tip dinner and award presentation after the event.

The 2009-2010 school year will mark Anderson Union High School's 100th year of operation. The centennial celebrations to follow will take place on September 3, 4 and 5 with a series of events ranging from breakfasts and dinner dances, to homecoming parades, the dedication of the new Bob Reid Stadium and other homecoming football game activities.

Funds raised from centennial activities will go toward the purchase of display cases for the gymnasium, an electronic welcome sign to AUHS, landscaping "The Hill" and a street clock in the quad.
