The Anderson Teen Center changed its open hours to coincide with planned teen center activities for the summertime.
On Wednesdays, the teen center would be open 2-7 p.m. to include Art and Cooking. On Thursdays, 2-7 p.m., the teen center would close and staff would meet at the Anderson River Park for games. "We did a park day in the spring, it was a really big hit. We played tennis, soccer, and different activities," Melissa Peterson, Senior Project Manager for Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children said.
On Fridays the teen center will host a movie night from 4-9 p.m.
Other upcoming events at the teen center include Friday Band Nights, when youth bands will take the stage at the teen center. Shows are scheduled at 6-9 p.m. on July 17 and Aug. 7, Aug. 28.
"We'll have three teen bands each night, and have a snack bar open as usual," Peterson said.
Community Service Tuesdays is also scheduled once a month during the summer.
"We're going to be cleaning up the block, and painting over graffiti around town," Peterson said
She also announced plans to assist with the Anderson-Cottonwood Christian Assistance food drive on July 15.
A mid-summer camping trip and a teen center lock-in are also planned for youth who consistently participating in teen center activities.
To participate in activities at the teen center, youth must be in 7th to 12th grade. For youth to continually visit the teen center, parents must sign a permission slip including emergency contact information.
In other teen center business, the pancake dinner and car wash fundraisers last week were cancelled due to lack of interest. Attendance to a leadership conference was thereby cancelled due to lack of funding.
