Viewers can dash for cash at KIXE's summer auction

A chance at a 60-second "dash for cash" and weekend houseboat vacations on Shasta Lake are among the highlights of KIXE's summer auction, which will be held June 25-26.

The dash for cash, sponsored by North Valley Bank, offers the high bidder a minute to pocket as many coins as they can scoop out of a fishbowl loaded with $500 in quarters, dimes and nickels. The only catch: the contestant can only use their hands and they have to dash back and forth between the loaded bowl and an empty one they're busily filling.

Bids for the chance to dash will be accepted on Thursday and the dash itself will be held the following night in the KIXE studio.

Broadcast live beginning at 7 p.m. both nights, the auction offers viewers both the convenience of shopping from home and a fun way to support quality local public television, according to Vickie Shattuck, KIXE's auction coordinator.

KIXE viewers will be invited to bid on tools, jewelry, art work and guided fishing trips as well as gift certificates for restaurants, hotel stays, tours and more.

Viewers can join in the fun by phoning in bids or they can visit www.kixe.org to make advance bids on selected items. For more information, contact Shattuck at (530) 243-5493 or auction@kixe.org.
