Lyle Hugh Crider
Born on November 12, 1916, Lyle Hugh Crider passed-away at the age of 92
due to a short-term illness.
Lyle is survived by his son Jerry Crider and goddaughter Shelly Monroy, grandchildren Michael Crider, Kimberlee Crider, Becky Weigel, and Jackie Monroy, great-grandchildren Kelsey Crider, Callie Crider, and Michael Crider, Jr.
Lyle was happily married to his late wife Gwendolyn for 73 years.
Lyle was an avid gardener and bird-watcher, and was known for sharing wonderful stories of a life lived long, well, and proud.
Services will be held Friday June 26th at 10 a.m. at Anderson Cemetery District.
Norma Louise Tomascheski
Norma Louise Tomascheski passed away on June 22, 2009 in Eureka, CA at the age of 86.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph (Bud) Tomascheski, and daughter Patricia Tomascheski.
Norma was born in Riverside, CA on October 15, 1922.
She is survived by her brother and his wife Eugene and Lucille Cornelius ; children Dan Tomascheski (Jeanne), John Tomascheski (Christine), Dolores Blanc (Victor), Liz Adams (Michael), Ann Tomascheski; her grandchildren, Becca Blanc, Marian Bushman, Joe Tomascheski, Greg Tomascheski, Julia Tomascheski, Daniel Adams, Anne Marie Adams, Matthew Basham, Bradley Steiner, Jeffrey Steiner; and three great-grandchildren .
During World War II Norma was a singer with the USO, she also volunteered for the Chaplain Corps, at the Army Air Corps base near Santa Ana, singing in church services twice a week. Norma graduated from St. Joseph College of Nursing, August 1947. Her first nursing position took her to Portland Oregon in January of 1948, where she lived for two years, sharing an apartment with her brother Gene. In September of 1950 Norma moved to Riddle, Oregon.
In addition to caring for her parents, she also worked full time as a nurse in Roseburg for eight months and in Canyonville, where she helped open a new hospital. Norma met Bud one Sunday after church. They were married in November 1951. Children followed in short order with six arriving over the next nine years. In 1960 Bud and Norma moved to Reno, NV where Norma worked the night shift in pediatrics at St. Mary's hospital. Bud and Norma moved to Eureka in 1976 after Bud's company was acquired by Sierra Pacific Industries. Norma thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. A delicious meal was always available from Norma's kitchen no matter how short the notice or how large the crowd.
After Bud's retirement they enjoyed numerous trips to Alaska, Canada and the Midwest. They particularly enjoyed the Oregon Coast and visits with her brother and wife in Morro Bay. Norma had an overwhelming interest in her immediate family and her children's friends became part of her extended family. Her family and their friends enjoyed the benefits of her wise council and fierce loyalty.
We extend our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Pacific Healthcare for their skill and dedication in caring for Norma.
Norma supported many charitable organizations and was an active member of Women in Timber. Donations in Norma's memory can be made to the Children's Summer Lunch Program through Food For People at 307 W. 14th St. Eureka CA 95501.
Visitation for Norma is from 1 – 5 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home on Thursday June 25, with a Rosary at 6p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 26 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka followed by a graveside service at Ocean View Cemetery.
A reception for family and friends will follow at the family home.
