A controversial transmission line project will be the topic of discussion between the Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC) board and the Shasta County Board of Supervisors in a three-hour, public question-and-answer session set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Cascade Theatre, 1731 Market St., in Redding.

Routes for overhead power transmission lines for a potential statewide renewable energy project could pass east of Anderson and just north or east of Cottonwood, according to a proposal from TANC and Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). The proposal has raised land-owner opposition in Cottonwood and across the north state.

"We're expecting to fill the theatre," said Shasta County Supervisor Les Baugh, who will co-emcee the free event with Redding mayor Rick Bosetti.

"I will continue to oppose the TANC project in its present state," Baugh said, adding that he wants the audience at the Cascade theatre to back him up.

"When I stand up I would like everyone to stand with me. We can stand in unity and the TANC board will see that."

Before the supervisors' meeting, the StopTANC group has a meeting scheduled a rally featuring an attorney specializing in transmission line cases. The StopTANC rally is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 1900 Hilltop Dr., in Redding, according to organizer Lisa Goza.

The group also planned a peaceful walk from Redding City Hall to the Cascade Theatre from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
