Blood donors who participate Tuesday, July 7, in a blood drive held at Prime 11 Cinemas in Anderson will not only receive free movie passes, but will also be entered into a weekly drawing for a $250 gasoline gift card, a representative for BloodSource announced this week.
The BloodSource bloodmobile will be parked outside the theater from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., said Dannielle Smith of the nonprofit community blood bank.
Blood donations help patients being treated for accidents, routine surgeries and diseases such as cancer, heart disease and hemophilia. Giving blood is easy, safe and takes less than one hour, but only about 5 percent of the estimated 38 percent of eligible Americans donate blood, Smith said.
Donors must be in good health and free from cold symptoms for at least 48 hours. Donors must be at least 17 years old - 16 with a parental consent form - and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donating blood.
All prospective donors must bring a valid photo ID.
