The Cottonwood Watershed Group arranged to begin a farmer's market and artisan fair on Fridays, 3-7 p.m., beginning April 24 located at the E.T.C. Mercantile business, 3308 Main St. The market has already garnered about 30 interested vendors, according to Cottonwood Watershed Group Executive Director Brynn Nolan.
"We've really got the community behind us," Nolan said. "It's good for the watershed to promote agriculture sustainability."
The farmer's market is planned to go on year-round.
"It will be the area's first year-round market," Nolan said. "Obviously we'll shut down if there are gale-force winds, so we will be weather-permitting in the winter, but otherwise we'll have tents up."
Nolan estimated that half of the vendors for the weekly market would be food vendors, with the other half providing arts and crafts.
According to the growing season, Anderson farmer Bob Kearns said market goers could expect to find lettuce, cabbages, radishes, and turnips in late April. Also potentially available would be peas, Brussels sprouts and root vegetables, Nolan added.
Kearns said he would his crop of squash and pickling cucumbers wouldn't be available until May.
