Anderson Police Officers were notified that a possible stolen Chrysler New Yorker was en route to Cottonwood from Redding at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
"The officers just waited for them on Interstate 5," APD Captain Robert Kirvin said of Officers Garett Maxwell and Scott Bailey.
The Chrysler was spotted traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, and Officer Maxwell made a traffic stop near the Shasta Outlets. Once a second squad car stopped at the scene, the driver, later identified as Loretta Sue Turner, 29, of Redding, drove away.
The officers pursued Turner to Cottonwood and back onto northbound I-5. Turner nearly lost control of her vehicle several times, nearly striking other motorists, at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Turner exited onto Deschutes and continued to Hawes Road.
The pursuit ended at the east end of Hawes Road where the Turner's vehicle collided with a street sign and oak tree, according to APD Sergeant Bryan Van Dyke.
Turner exited the vehicle, refused to comply with police commands, and attempted to punch Maxwell in the face, according to the APD report. Turner was subdued and taken into custody.
Turner was arrested for felony evading, misdemeanor DUI, and assault on a peace officer. Turner was transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center before getting booked at county jail.
