Moving from its Redding location, NorCal Kenworth closed its Churn Creek Road location at noon on Friday, Feb. 27, to move onto county property at 20769 Industry Road south of Anderson. The dealership was scheduled to open for business in Anderson on Monday, March 2.
The business is moving off of City of Redding land which has been slated for a commercial complex development, according to salesman Tom King.
The business deals in parts, servicing, financing, and sales of new and used trucks.
"We deal in any sized big truck from the two-axle guy who delivers bottled water to the big rigs on the highway," King said.
The company paid $2.7 million for five acres and a 10,000 square foot structure - the former site of Empire Equipment - at Industry Road and Barney Street, according to Shasta County Associate Planner Lio Salazar.
The company subsequently added nearly 10,000 square feet to the structure and refurbished the interior.
A Sacramento-based company acquired the dealership from its previous owner, but rejected the $6.7 million facility on Auto Mall Drive in Anderson that was custom-built for the truck dealership and service center, said Tom Bertolino, vice president of Nor-Cal Kenworth.
In contrast, the new development with its lower price tag would better "suit the market," Bertolino previously told the Valley Post.
The new home for NorCal Kenworth is more than double the size of its current Redding facility and will provide 10 truck bays, internet access and other new technology.
