At the Cottonwood Water District's monthly board meeting on Feb. 11, the board accepted the data supporting the increased fee to the current water rates. A public hearing will be held at the District office 3882 Chestnut St. in Cottonwood on April 8 to hear public comment and to vote on the adoption of the fee ordinance.
The general purpose of the proposed rate increase is to keep step with the rising operational costs. The proposed ordinance will increase the base rate from $13.50 to $15.50 for the purchase of the first 800 cubic feet or 6000 gallons. It also increases the additional usage rate from $0.60 to $0.70 for every 100 cubic feet of water consumed beyond the original 800 cubic feet.
Approximately 50 percent of the district customers use less than the base rate.
