Sikh Centre celebration on April 11

Vaisakhi Festival will be celebrated April 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at The Sikh Centre, 5400 Sikh Centre Drive off Corner Way. Vaisakhi celebration will include displays, demonstrations and workshops which reflect several aspects of Punjabi life. The purpose of the event is to continue building bridges between the Sikh community and the community at large. The event will be free and all people in the community are wholeheartedly invited.

To strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among communities, attendance at The Sikh Centre functions is open to everyone. The workshops and demonstrations to be organized on the event day would be as follows:

Traditional Punjabi and Sikh Clothing: Practical experience of wearing Kurta Pyjamas and Turbans as well as Punjabi suits.

Punjabi Kitchen: A chance to see and taste the basic Punjabi foods and vegetables, and make chapattis.

Displays of History: Photographs of historical events from the Sikh culture.

Sikh Martial Arts: A live presentation of Sikh Martial Arts

Punjabi Folk Dance (Bhangra) and Music: An opportunity for the visitors to enjoy Punjabi folkdance Bhangra and a few traditional musical instruments used by the Sikh community in Indian classical music.
