The Anderson Cubs softball team hosted a tournament that attracted teams from as far away as Beaverton, Oregon and Reno, Nevada last weekend, March 27 and 28.

The small school varsity softball tournament included more than twenty teams, and was held at Big League Dreams in Redding.

Anderson started the tournament with a 1-12 loss to Foothill High School on Friday morning. That afternoon, the Cubs fell again to Cresent Valley, 1-11, a team from Corvallis, Oregon.

But the Cubs rallied back for a win at the end of the day against Hamilton City, 5-4.

On Friday night, Cubs Coach Don Howard was proud of his team.

"They did wonderful. We won the last one, and you're only as good as your last game," the coach said. "We're hustling and we're having a good time. We're becoming a good team."

The Cubs girls lost their last game of the tournament on Saturday (5-9), against Pleasant Valley, of Chico.

West Valley lost their game Friday night against Chico (2-7) but they came back to win both of their games on Saturday against Hamilton (8-0) and Paradise (9-4).
