I support the selection of the city of Anderson for the location of our new Shasta County courthouse.
It would be an economical boon for our city and we would draw new industry, one that would not be available otherwise.
We have recently rezoned a large part of our downtown to mixed use which would be ideal for attorney offices. Several buildings would require only minimal renovation to be used for office space.
Other obvious benefits for Anderson would be that our restaurants, hotels, grocery stores and gas stations would all see an increase in business. I am certain many existing and new service businesses would consider locating near the courthouse highly desirable.
I thought it was ingenious of our city council and Mr. Tumino to recommend this parcel. Anderson's location directly off Interstate 5 means easy accessibility.
The Riverside Avenue exit is only 11.1 miles and 13 minutes from the existing courthouse, which I know to those from Redding seems to be a long distance; however, this proposed location would be more convenient for potential jurors throughout Shasta County.
Anytime I have been called for jury duty, I worried about parking and whether I could find a place to eat lunch in a timely manner without having to move my car. With adequate parking adjacent to the new courthouse and many restaurants nearby, this would no longer be a struggle.
I love efficiency!
I know that change is a challenge for those who have work routines in place, but you know, sometimes it is okay to shake up the routine.
Many courthouses in California are not located near jails and function quite well. We actually have a court in Shasta Lake City that is not near the jail or other necessary offices.
I believe that all agencies linked to the courthouse would adapt to the new location and maybe even find a better, more efficient way to deal with the day-to-day schedule.
I am definitely rooting for the Judicial Council to select Anderson for our new Shasta County courthouse.
Our site is basically ready to build with no demolition needed. This acreage is the size needed and Anderson is eager and ready to embrace this new industry to our city.
