Bass Hit Worms; Debris Hits Props at Lake Shasta

Roger Keeling of Roger's Guide Service (530) 284-6429 has been working Shasta Lake in spite of the debris and some wind and has been doing fairly well. On one trip it was extremely difficult to navigate the flotsam and jetsam but the situation has improved.

Since the week of March 16, Keeling has made several trips to take typical limits of 1-2 pound fish on brass and glass with plastic worms. He dyes the tails with chartreuse Spike-It and coats the worms with garlic scent.

Most trips have resulted in 20-25 fish landed, including some to three or three and half pounds.

New National Park Film Coming to Campfire near You

The National Parks: America's Best Idea" a documentary by Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan may be shown in Redding or around Whiskeytown Park's campfires this summer, according to Whiskeytown officials.

Guide Calls for Harvest Reduction

Ed Duggan, "D" Fishing Guide of Willow Creek is urging Klamath/Trinity in-river salmon anglers to attend a public meeting in Eureka, March 31 or to write or call the Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC) to ask for a more realistic quota for the 2009 season.

In view of the low returns and failure to meet our escapement goals, Duggan believes too many salmon are being allotted to both in-river and Tribal fisheries.

"A good quota is one you can harvest," Duggan said. "The quota of 30,000 fish for both in-river and Tribal harvest now being considered is unrealistic," Duggan said.

Meeting: Red Lion, 6 p.m., Evergreen Room, 1929 Fourth Street, Eureka, 95521. PFMC will adopt final salmon management measures in Millbrae the week after. Comment: email Chuck Tracy, PFMC at Chuck.Tracy@noaa.gov, or call (503) 820-2280 ext. 415. In addition, send copies to Mr. Neil Manji, Chief, Fisheries Branch, CA DFG 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, and to the F&G Commission at FGC@fgc.ca.gov
