Join thousands of other bicycle commuters in California and enjoy a fun and energizing bike ride to work during Bike Commute Week, May 11-15, urges Sara Sundquist of Shasta County Public Health.
Plenty of free local events are planned throughout the county during the week, Sundquist said.
These include:
A public workshop to give input on the new Shasta Lake City bike plan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in the John Beaudet Community Center.
Tours of the Cypress Bridge construction project at 8:30 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, in Redding.
Energizer Stations where various businesses provide free breakfast snacks to bicycle commuters from 7 a.m.-9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13. Participating businesses include:
- Great Harvest Bread Company, 930 Hilltop Dr, Redding
- Jamba Juice - 3455 Placer St, Redding
- Country Organics, 915 Merchant St, #5, Redding
- Sue's Java Cafe, 1712 Churn Creek Rd, Redding
- Viva Downtown Redding, 1721 Market St, Redding
- Shasta Family YMCA, 1155 N. Court St, Redding
- Starbucks, 5340 Shasta Dam Blvd, City of Shasta Lake
- Shasta County Public Health/Teen Center, 2889 E. Center St, Anderson
Tours of the Dana to Downtown bikeway project at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, in Redding.
Bike commute maintenance clinics at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at Parkview Riverfront Park and 10:45 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the Lake Redding Pavilion area.
A lunchtime bike ride on the River Trail starts at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the Lake Redding Pavilion Area just off the River Trail.
A free pancake breakfast and secure bike parking during the Redding Rodeo Pancake Breakfast from 5 a.m.-10 a.m. on Friday, May 15, at the south entrance of the Downtown Mall off Placer Street for breakfast ticket and bike parking. This event is provided by Shasta Wheelmen.
