Cubs track meet with Eagles

Anderson hosted a track and field meet at West Valley on Wednesday.

The teams competing include the Cubs, the Eagles and the Lassen Grizzlies.

The Cubs Derek Nichols, who is ranked first in the section in discus, continued to impress in his event placing first with a distance of 156-04.

West Valley's Michelle Johnson got the second fastest 800-meter run by a girl in her school's history during the meet.

Other Anderson and West Valley students achieved their personal bests.

"We feel like a lot of our students are peaking, and the team continues to improve," said Steve Main, one of the Eagles' track coaches.

Although the Cubs hosted the meet, it was held at West Valley due to Anderson's lack of facilities. This will change next year when the school gets it's all-weather track and field.

"I am looking forward to expanding the cub track team and showing off the great up to date facility," said Cubs head coach Robert Bilodeaux. "I feel like it is going to enhance my ability to recruit kids to participate in this sport, and make Anderson a strong contender in the years to come."
