A pair of line dancing enthusiasts are sharing their enjoyment with seniors in Anderson.
Every Tuesday afternoon, Carla Nicolau and Roly Summit teach line dancing at the Frontier Senior Center. Even though the group is only a couple of months old, they already have a number of dances down.
The line dancing group splits includes both a beginning and an intermediate session. Nicalau, the head instructor, likes to include a variety of line dances, as well as a variety of music.
"We don't do so much country western," Nicolau said. "We have some, but we dance to Michael Jackson, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn. We just dance."
Nicolau said she's attracted to line dancing because of "the music, the rhythm and the steps," while Summit points out it's convenient because you don't have to have a partner to participate.
The pair said they get ideas for line dances through a book, through participant suggestion, and from their experiences in other line dancing classes.
Although many of the seniors in the group have line dancing experience, there are also beginners, and the mood of the class is light-hearted.
Nicolau and Summit said the line dancers get more than just entertainment from their experiences.
"You get exercise," Nicolau said. "After two hours I am really tired."
"It also takes coordination keeping with the music," she said.
When class participants get out of step, it's no big deal, the line dancers said.
"If you mess up, you just try to get back in again," Nicolau said. "We just do it for fun."
