Miss Cottonwood Rodeo crowned

Jackie Munson, 17, of Cottonwood was crowned Miss Cottonwood Rodeo on Saturday, May 9, during opening ceremonies at the community's annual Mother's Day rodeo.

As she begins her year-long reign, Jackie will attend Redding's rodeo this weekend to represent her home town, meet local youth and help push cattle out of the arena during three days of rodeo action. Throughout the remainder of the 2009-2010 rodeo season, Jackie will have the opportunity to go to rodeos around the state.

"I am excited about the opportunity that I have been given to represent Cottonwood and to talk about rodeo with others," Jackie said.

A junior at West Valley High School, she is the daughter of Jason and Becky Munson of Cottonwood.

While waiting for the results of the crowning of Miss Cottonwood Rodeo, the stands were packed with friends and family of all of the contestants waiting to hear the results. She was crowned by Erin Gibson of Palo Cedro, Miss Cottonwood 2008.

Jackie Munson plans on attending the University of California at Davis after graduating high school. She intends to enroll in the university's veterinary medicine program. She also plans to rodeo in college.

Jackie is a member of the California High School Rodeo Association District One rodeo team and competes in barrel racing as well as poll bending.
