Teen center to host youth talent show, basketball tourney

The Anderson Teen Center's annual Spring Bash on May 22 will open the teen center to the public for a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, food and art exhibition. The event includes a fundraiser as well. Last year the event drew well over a hundred youth to the event.

The center runs the basketball tournament from 6-8 p.m. and is open to the general public. From 8-10 p.m., only youth from 7th-12th grade would be admitted to the talent show and youth bands with proper identification.

The deadline for entry into the youth talent show and art exhibition is May 15.

Already, the talent show is expected to include singers, musicians and a variety of dancers and even break dancers.

To support the activities at the teen center, food will be for sale at the event.

A group of 11 youth from the teen center recently traveled to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. The trip, including transportation, cost $500. All of which was raised by teen center youth.

"We have a ton of creative kids. The trip showed them art doesn't have to be 'cookie cutter,'" Senior Project Coordinator of Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children Melissa Peterson said.
