The population of the City of Anderson reached 10,765 souls as of Jan. 1, 2009, growing by 2.1 percent from Jan. 1, 2008 according to estimates from the California State Department of Finance. That increase amounted to an influx of 225 people, an amount that Anderson City Manager Scott Morgan attributed almost entirely to the occupancy of Blue Oak Court Apartments, 2300 Hwy. 273.
Shasta County, including incorporated areas, grew by 0.8 percent to 181,023 souls.
Another surge of population to Anderson is expected in 2010 with the opening of Regency II, a low-income assisted-living senior apartment complex, Morgan said.
Bids for construction of Regency II are due on May 28, 2009. The new apartment complex would feature 79 units, and would be identical to the Regency Place already built at 2501 Red Bud Ln., just north of the proposed construction site.
Both the Regency and Blue Oak Court apartments are forms of low-income housing. The development of Blue Oak Apartments earned tax credits for the owner provided it houses low income residents, according to Assistant City Manager Dana Shigley.
The construction of Regency II would be overseen by Idaho Pacific West Builders, the same agency responsible for the construction of the Blue Oak Court apartments, according to on-site project superintendent David Castleton.
Construction for the project could begin this summer, Castleton said, adding that the project could be completed in the spring of 2010.
