Shasta Raceway Park featured a 50-lap memorial race during the during its City of Anderson Night last Saturday.
Race car driver Guy Young, No. 7, placed first in the Craig Brown Memorial Modified Race, winning himself a 6-foot tall perpetual trophy.
Young was also the 2008 Modified division champion.
The 50-lap race was the second annual event paying tribute to Craig Brown, a modified race car driver in the late-eighties and nineties who passed away from cancer.
Although raceway promoter Rick Faeth didn't know Brown personally, he said Brown has made a long-lasting impression on the racing community.
"He helped a lot of other racers. He was a great guy to be around. And he was a very accomplished racer," Faeth said.
Eleven modified race car drivers took part in the memorial race. The drivers had to adjust their driving styles for the special event.
"Obviously you need more fuel. You need to manage your tires. It's just a longer race and you have to be more patient," said Faeth.
This weekend, Shasta Raceway will feature a retro-vintage weekend during the tracks California Vintage Nationals.
"We'll have vintage cars, sprint cars, midgets, track roadsters and super modifieds," Faeth said.
"We will have free practice on Friday night so people can come out and take a look at it," he said.
The prices for the vintage racing event will also be old-school. Tickets will be $5 on Friday and Saturday nights - half off of the regular price. Programs will also be available for 25 cents.
