WV falls in Valley Bowl; Cubs win in Yreka

West Valley continues its two-week losing streak with a loss on the road to Central Valley.

Going into half time the score was 37-28 with Central Valley in the lead. The Falcons would go on to hold off the Eagles in a 44-34 victory making it only the second time Central Valley has won the Valley Bowl, the first time was in 2005.

West Valley played well in the first half, but struggled defensively to stop the big plays. However, in the second half defense was able to shut down the Falcons offense, but the Eagles offense lead by Levi Cox was unable to create enough momentum in the first half to make up the deficit.

Cox was 9-33 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, but was sacked three times and intercepted three times, due to a strong Falcons defense. The offense was more successful in the second half with the run, but did not really start focusing on that aspect until the fourth quarter.

Derek Serna had three touchdowns in the game, but two missed two point conversions made the game a two score game and West Valley was unable to continue the momentum they built after Cox scored early in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles are 1-3 in the NAL and will need some help this week and a win at home against Yreka if they are going to have a chance at the playoffs. Yreka is 0-4 in the NAL after a loss on Friday to Anderson.

Cubs 17- Miners 15

Anderson had the edge playing against host Yreka, with a strong defense and a good run game, the Cubs lead going into half time 14-0.

However, in the second half the Miners managed to gain momentum and fight against the Cub defense to get a pair of touchdowns, but it wasn't enough, the Cubs kicker Manny Contreras made a 37-yard field goal to help Anderson win.

The Cubs are 2-2 in the NAL and will head to Corning on Friday. Corning is 3-1 in the NAL after a loss to Lassen on Friday.
