Benito seeks re-election

Shasta County's District Attorney, Jerry Benito, announced Friday, Oct. 30, that he intends to seek re-election to the position that he has held since May 2003.

Benito, 48, of Redding moved to Shasta County in 1988 and has been a prosecutor in Shasta County for nearly 20 years.

Benito is active in the community both on and off the job.

Among his professional accomplishments, Benito lists his tough stances on prosecuting methamphetamine possession, drunken-driving and illegal trash dumping cases. While district attorney, Benito says he is proudest of his office's focus on domestic violence, adult sexual assault and stalking cases.

He also points to his creation of consumer protection and real-estate fraud units to maintain a high quality of life for all residents.

He is a member of the Rotary Club of Redding and Mothers Against Drunk Driving as well as serving as vice chairman of Kids' Turn. He has also participated in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" fund-raiser and danced competitively in Dancing with the Stars, Shasta County Style.

He is also a former Little League Baseball Coach for both Redding and Shasta Lake City.
