The Eagles played a tough match against Yreka, keeping them out of the end zone all night to take the game 44-0.
The Eagles controlled the game early on bringing the heat when Gabe Groff scored a touchdown the first minutes of the game. In the last few minutes of the first quarter.
Ronny Hampton made a touchdown, making the score to 14-0.
With 6:41 left in the
second quarter, Brandon Burnett ran the ball into the end zone bringing the Eagles lead over the Miners to 3 touchdowns. Then with about three minutes left before half time, Yreka's quarterback Joe Wilson was intercepted by line backer Austin Lobsinger and Hampton scored off the play with 43.1 seconds left before the half.
At the start of the third quarter, West Valley's defense created a fumble and recovered it. After a quick drive, Hampton scored another touchdown, bringing the Eagles lead to 35-0 over the Miners.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Tyler Low's kick for three points was good. Then with 4:07 left in the game, Derek Serna ran the ball 45 yards for a touchdown bringing the score to 44-0.
The Miners fumbled the ball on the 25-yard line with 3:02 left and the Eagles recovered and ran the ball to eat the clock. The final play of the game was a knee taken by quarterback Levi Cox on the 1-yard line.
"It feels great to win. It's like 100 pounds was lifted off my shoulders," said Cox after the game.
Cox finished the day passing for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Hampton had four catches for 59 yards and three touchdowns and Serna had 23 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown.
