The Annual Northern California Federation Division II North Cheerleading Competition was recently held at Central Valley High School, and Anderson had five cheerleading squads ranging in age from five to 14 in the competition.

The 2008 North II Junior Midget Dance Champions returned to the competition as midgets this year to defend their title. Even though the squad had tripled in size, the girls were still determined to win the competition.

According to Dusty Hubert, the head coach, and Chelsea Chatin, the junior coach, the increased size of the squad was an advantage. The 21 girls impressed the crowd with their performances in both the cheer and dance competitions.

The Anderson Midgets went on to place first in both divisions, moving them to the state competition.

According to Lisa Burris, the junior midget coach, this has been the most successful year the Junior Cub cheerleaders have experienced, and a jumping off point for years to come.

The Anderson junior midget placed third in dance and the pee wee's won third place in cheer.

On Nov. 15, the Junior Cub Midgets competed against Enterprise (North Division I Champions for cheer and dance), Wheatland (South Division II Champions in cheer and dance), Oroville (South Division I champions in cheer), and Chico (South Division I Champions in dance) at Foothill High School in the State Championships, while the girls' performed well, they did not place.
