Group watches over historic sites

Members of the Historic Watchdogs had their first get-together last week at the historic Parkville Ranch in Anderson. The only business conducted was to meet each other, talk about our "adopted" historical place, and eat at least two or three helpings of homemade blackberry cobber, homemade ice cream, and apple cider.

This newly formed group was organized for only one reason - to keep a watchful eye on historic places located all over Shasta County. Each member "adopts" something historical a site, building, bridge, cemetery, etc., and promises to check on it often to make sure all is well. If they happen to encounter a problem such as vandalism, graffiti, etc., they immediately contact the proper authorities. Their mission is to keep a watchful eye on historic buildings, places and objects.

Our group currently has 38 watchdogs. If you'd like to become a watchdog, please contact me at historydottie@yahoo.com. I'm the proud chairman of this great group and can always find something historical for you to watch. There are no dues, and no meetings. We get together once a year to talk about our adopted sites, gorge ourselves on delicious homemade food, and enjoy ourselves.
