Dr. Ray John, CEO of Haven Humane Society said he is pleased about the new feral cat spay and neuter program that started Nov. 22 at Haven Humane Society's Spay and Neuter Clinic. The December clinic is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20. This special trap and release program addresses the feral cat overpopulation and has been successful all over the country, he said.
"These $25 surgeries are all done on a first come, first served basis and cats may be dropped off between 8-11 a.m. and picked up between 2-3 p.m.," Dr. John said.
He praised Dr. Rick Suther, VCA Companion Animal Hospital and Haven's own veterinarian Dr. Cyanna Brauning, for volunteering their services to address a huge issue in this area.
"Thanks to a generous donation from the Northern California Veterinary Medical Association, this program will make a huge difference reducing the population of feral cats that are seen in so many areas of our community," he said, adding that the program is only for feral cats.
Surgeries will be performed on the third Sunday of every month starting Nov. 22. All area animal rescue organizations and individuals overseeing feral cat colonies will now have an affordable means of helping reduce the feral cat population.
Feral cats will be altered, feline leukemia tested, aids tested, rabies vaccinated then returned to their colonies where they are overseen by qualified individuals. For more information contact Dr John at 241-1653.
