Happy Valley Elementary students put on one the play "The Tortoise and the Hare Race Again" for their fellow students.
The cast in this particular production is one of four casts to perform the play.
The other casts performed for Happy Valley Primary students and other students at the seventh and eighth grade levels.
The play depicts a second race between the tortoise and the hare, but this time the dialogue touched on environmental issues.
The animals find trash in the woods that is unsafe for them and their young. For example, water pollution makes the hare sick and air pollution was so bad the tortoise could not breathe.
In the end, human characters were picking up all of the trash so that the animals could live in a clean habitat.
The race itself was never completed, however, but there was a huge feeling of relief for all creatures.
The play was directed by drama teacher Becky Goodson. Costumes were made by parent volunteers. Memorizing lines of dialogue and remembering stage placement and directions will help the young performers gear up for a larger scale musical they will perform in the spring, Goodson said.
