Anderson preschool locked down after nearby dispute with alleged firearm

Reports of a man threatening a blond woman with a handgun while crossing the Anderson Heights Elementary campus on Spruce Circle prompted a police search, however fruitless, of the suspects or alleged firearm on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

While a Head Start preschool in the area was placed briefly on lock-down at about 10:10 a.m., Anderson Heights was out of session during Thanksgiving week and lock-down there was in order, APD Chief Dale Webb said.

A bystander reported seeing a Hispanic male chasing chasing the blond woman around a Spruce Circle apartment complex.

"I thought they were playing with each other," he said, witholding his name. "I didn't know he had a gun."

While the existence of any firearm is still in question, Chief Webb added that another person reported that after the male left, the female chased after him.

At about 10:30 a.m., Webb said that the people involved in the domestic abuse had left the area.

The APD is continuing its investigation, Webb said.
