Rite Aid is scheduled to open at its new Anderson location on McMurry Drive at 8 a.m. Oct. 8, according to store manager Theresa Collins. A ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. will be followed with a performance by the Anderson Union High School band, she said.

While the store's previous location in the Anderson Square shopping plaza will close on Oct. 7, Collins said there was no definite date set for vacating the space.

The owner of the plaza, Fresno-based Thomason Development, filed with Shasta County Superior Court for an injunction in April 2008 to halt Rite-Aid's move off their property, according to a Record Searchlight article.

"The owners of the Anderson Square shopping center claim that Rite Aid and its parent company, Thrifty-Payless Inc., had agreed to stay at the shopping center until May 31, 2012, paying a minimum $43,776 per year for the space, plus three percent of a portion of its gross sales," continued the article.

Owner Mike Thomason was reached by telephone last week but did not comment about the current state of the lawsuit. Rite Aid spokespersons also did not return comment.

Thomason did not say whether a new business was slated to move in following Rite Aid's expected departure.
