Lady Cub and Eagle golfers improving

The West Valley and Anderson girls' golf teams traveled to Diamond Mountain in Susanville where they were treated to perfect golf weather.

"The weather was perfect and the girls are improving weekly," said Daina Cowan, West Valley girls' golf coach. "This week Kendal Vincent qualified for the North Section Golf Tournament to be held at Wilcox Oaks on November 2nd. Grace Boyle had a great week with a score of 59, Kasey Laughlin shot a 60 and Carissa Stenzel shot a 67."

"Last week at Diamond Mountain was a big success," said Seth Longnecker Anderson's girls golf coach. "Shannon shrugged off a poor performance from the week before and broke into the 60's."

Shannon Westmoreland finished the day with a score of 69 on the par 36 front nine. Her teammate Whitley Gibson shot her personal best of 60 putting her closer to her goal of shooting in the 50's.

"Frustratingly, I witnessed (Shannon) miss several comeback putts from short distances that added strokes to her score. Overall, Shannon was much less frustrated and her trademark smile was present throughout the day," said Longnecker. "Whitley also has reason to smile and be proud. She shot a personal best and is closer to her goal."

According to Longnecker adding to Whitley's improved performance is the announcement last week that she was selected as the Anderson High School Student Athlete of the Month, which is a recognition rarely bestowed to the golf program.
