PERFECT TIMING: Senior defensive back Derek Kennemore intercepted a Grizzley pass a few snaps into their drive. Anderson was unable to capitalize on interception.

The Cubs hosted the Lassen Grizzlies on Friday night, and while it was a close game, Lassen won 14-6.

Defensively the Cubs were strong, holding Lassen to two touchdowns in the first half of the game. The defense was also able to make a stand in the red zone pushing Lassen back from the two yard line to the four yard line, then holding them again when the Grizzlies tried on fourth down to make it into the end zone.

The Cubs offense took to the field and on the first snap of the drive, Justin Irwin was able connect with Jake Bell, who ran 97 yards for a touchdown with 1:12 left in the fourth quarter.

"The first half we came out really slow, not really working as a team," said Jake Bell. "We came out strong in the second half, we held Lassen on the goal line. We just need to play like that all the way through."

Anderson's defense tried to get the ball back, after the attempted onside kick went to Lassen, having all three time outs available to stop the clock, but a penalty for encroachment cost them and Lassen was able to kneel on the ball to win the game.

Offensively, the Cubs were able to do much and converted only five first downs.

"We need to be more disciplined," said Lance Gosch, head coach for Anderson after the game. "Lassen's ball club is no better than us, but mistakes cost us the game."

Gosch went on to tell his team they started a new season and are only 0-1, and everything they want is still within their reach.
