Sacred Heart Catholic School and Preschool in Anderson has just received a six year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, principal Larry Butcher announced last week.
The nine-month accreditation process began in the fall of 2008 and concluded in May. It included administration, staff and parents.
Six years of accreditation for preschool through eighth grade is the highest term any school can achieve and two north state schools have achieved this distinction - Sacred Heart School in Anderson and Sacred Heart School in Red Bluff, Butcher said.
Enrollment numbers are one way to show the many changes that have transpired in the past year, he said. Enrollment is currently at more than 125 students, a significant increase from just 52 students enrolled in the fall of 2008.
Small class size is being maintained with all classes reaching or near capacity with enrollment and waiting lists established for some grades.
"Offering small class sizes and individualized instruction for all students has always been and continues to be a priority," Butcher said.
New curriculum has also been added including upgraded technology equipment. Sacred Heart graduated its first eighth grade class since 1995 in May of 2009.
New sports programs have also been added to include co-ed cross country, flag football and basketball programs, all competing in local school leagues.
