Success for Bark and Wine fundraiser

Dr. Ray John, chief executive officer of Haven Humane Society, said his adrenaline level ran high as he auctioned the night away during the organization's recent Bark & Wine fundraiser, an event that netted $15,000 for the animal shelter.

"It was a phenomenal night with lots of energy from those who attended our second annual event," John said, adding that bidding often met or exceeded the stated value of an item being auctioned.

The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of about 200, including several who commented about their passion for animals, he said.

"You couldn't ask for a better crowd, especially with the economy the way it is," he said.

John's live auction antics were enhanced by KRCR weather personality Chita Johnson and Haven's own "Bling Girls."

The food was great, the "atmosphere was awesome, people had a great time and money was raised for the shelter," he added.

John, who is already gearing up for Haven Humane Society's 60th anniversary in 2012, said he is convinced this event will only grow bigger and get better in the years to come.
