Happy Valley 4-H Beef had their first meeting October 4. We recapped last year and set goals for this year. Goal one is to provide a quality beef animal. Goal two is to work together as a group. Goal three is to provide a community service.
This year Coleen Wogoman will again be our beef leader. We welcomed two new members, Ethan Tapal and Laura Elkins. Our returning members are Brandon Wogoman, Julie Mondorf and Chloe Fowler.
We have our steers picked out. They include Angus, Angus/Hereford cross and Hereford. Our new member, Laura Elkins, will be taking a heifer.
After our meeting, we worked in our booth for the Happy Valley Beef Group at the Mt. Shasta Mall. We had a PowerPoint presentation of the past year including photographs taken at the Shasta District Fair. We also handed out beef recipes. Chloe Fowler did a scientific demonstration on "Marshmallow Man, by-product of beef." Her question was why does a marshmallow expand or decrease with pressure while in a syringe?
For a fundraiser this year, we will be selling seasoned, dry oak firewood at $125 per half cord delivered within a 25 mile radius of Anderson. Orders are coming fast, so get yours in today. When we're full, were done.
Contact Brandon or Coleen Wogoman at 357-3477 to place your order. You can check with your accountant as this may be used as a tax deduction.
We would like to thank all the buyers who purchased steers from Happy Valley Beef. We hope you enjoyed the beef. We worked hard to provide you with a quality product. We also would like to thank our local feed stores for providing quality feed, good prices, advice and encouragement. It was much appreciated.
As you can see, Happy Valley 4-H Beef is hitting the trail on a full run this year. If you need us to help in any community activities, please contact us at 357-3477.
