Cubs golf plays in rain

The Anderson girl's golf team hosted a match Thursday against West Valley, Lassen, and Mt. Shasta at Tucker Oaks.

All the teams played in a steady drizzle of rain, and on a course that had a plethora of wet rough to snag errant shots.

Medalist honors went to Lassen's Ashley Novosad who shot a 47 on the lengthy 3,052 yard course from the ladie's tees. Mt. Shasta took first in the team competition and West Valley was second.

"Both of my girls, Whitley Gibson and Shannon Westmoreland did not mind playing in less than ideal conditions," said Seth Longnecker, Anderson girl's golf coach. "Both said that the weather wasn't bothersome, it just required them to stay focused and concentrate more on what they were doing, rather than what the weather was doing."

Although both girls took more strokes than usual, so did many others due to the conditions.

"Every girl on every team probably hit 5 - 10 more shots than usual," said Longnecker. "Whitley shot a 66 which put her 8th out of 20. Shannon shot a 75 and finished 15th."

Eagles 3, Cardinals 0

The West Valley girls' volleyball team traveled down to Corning and won in three straight sets, 26-24, 25-10, 25-10. Paige Adkins had 10 kills, Jessica Wilcox had four blocks, Amy Westaby racked up 28 digs, and Megan Bowen contributed 27 digs and five aces. The Eagles are 5-0 in the NAL, 28-5 overall.

Anderson 2, Yreka 3

The Anderson girls' volleyball team lost at home to the Yreka Miners. The Cubs were down by two sets and rallied to push the game into five sets, but lost the fifth set, 25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 15-13.

Raven Chavez had seven kills and two aces, Melissa Price and Elizabeth had five kills apiece, Brittany Holly had 10 digs, and Hanna Dykstra had 34 assists for the Cubs. Anderson is 0-5 in the NAL, 5-14 overall.
