After nearly two years vacant, the Good News Rescue Mission announced today they have filled the post of Executive Director. Dan Walters, a long time supporter and volunteer of the Mission, has been unanimously chosen by the Board of Directors to fill the void left by Jim Dahl nearly two years ago.
"Dan is very well known, loved, and respected here at the mission," said Board Chair Alan Swanson. "He has been personally involved in ministries at every level at the Mission for over 20 years and has an enormous heart for the Mission and what we do," he added.
Since 2002, Dan has served as a mentor, Distribution Center Manager and Interim Operations Director among other roles. Dan’s experience includes twenty-eight years with Cal-Fire, missionary service to Merida, Mexico and volunteer work locally for Foothill High School, Living Hope Compassion Ministries and Little Country Church in addition to the Mission.
Dave Honey who had stepped in to fill administrative duties over the last two years will remain as the Mission’s Director of Ministries.

The Good News Rescue Mission was founded in Redding in 1964 by a group of concerned Christians in our community. For thousands of men, women and children, the Mission has provided food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual hope through the Good News of Jesus Christ.
In the last 10 years, the Mission has expanded services to include the New Life Drug and Alcohol Recovery programs for men and women, transitional housing for graduates of that program, work search, free dental services, our Second Chance Ranch near Shingletown, California, the In-Step Mental Health program as well as the Learning and Literacy Center.
The Mission provided the following in 2008:

• 34,971 Unprepared Meals (Emergency Groceries)
• 63,267 Clothing, Furniture & other Household Items
• 9,568 Hours of Educational Instruction
