With seven felony warrants to his name, Jon Hill-Hawkins, 22, of Cottonwood, led Anderson police on yet another pursuit Tuesday afternoon. Hill-Hawkins previously evaded officers on Sept. 30 when he was speeding in a vehicle without valid registration. At the time, Hill-Hawkins was released from Shasta County jail on his own recognizance following his arrest for suspicion of burglary among other charges on Sept. 8. Hill-Hawkins has run from APD officers four times.
After an officer spotted Hill-Hawkins with acquaintance Krystal Kirby on Tuesday at about 3:35 p.m., he alone ran to an apartment complex on Bruce Street, APD Captain Robert Kirvin said. Police tracked Hill-Hawkins to a apartment door that had been kicked in, and announced that a K-9 unit would enter.
Located in a back bedroom, Hill-Hawkins was detained by officers including K-9 Nikita at approximately 3:50 p.m., Kirvin said. No longer present on scene, Hill-Hawkins was to be booked into Shasta County jail. Hill-Hawkins refused medical attention for superficial dog bite wounds on scene but will receive medical attention, Kirvin said.
"Most likely he'll get an additional (charge for evading officers)," Kirvin said of Hill-Hawkins. "Maybe this time they'll hold on to him so we don't have to keep wasting resources on him."
Kirby was detained by officers but not charged as of 4 p.m.
A bystander at the apartment complex who was observing police activity, dropped a bag containing a small amount of marijuana, about 18 grams. Stephen Eldridge, 27, of Anderson, had no medical recommendation for the marijuana, APD Sergent Robert Curato said.
Hill-Hawkins was held in Shasta County Jail as of Monday in lieu of a $1,025,000 bail.
