City plans upgrade to its water system

Federal recovery funds are coming to Anderson to help the city upgrade its water system, the state announced this month.

Anderson will get $370,548 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money to connect the city's main water pressure zone to the Ox Yoke area off Highway 273. The money will improve fire flow, bring water to residents currently on wells and provide hookups for future development.

The new water connection will be made at Alexander Avenue and Highway 273, then go on to Bellevue Lane, Loop Street and Pinewood Avenue.

Work on the $550,000 project could start in January and is expected to take about two months, Anderson Public Works Director Jeff Kiser said.

The California Department of Housing and Community Development distributed the $6.8 million to 10 communities.
