The Redding Rancheria Tribal Government held its annual Tribal Council elections last week.
Jack Potter, Jr., was elected Tribal Chairperson, replacing Barbara Murphy, who remains on the council as a member.
Jason Hart is the new Vice Chair, Patty Spaulding is Secretary and Leon Benner is Treasurer.
The Tribal Council, composed of seven council members and three alternate council members elected by its membership, is the governing body of the Redding Rancheria.
The four candidates receiving the most votes are each elected for a two-year term while the other three candidates serve a one-year term.
The three alternate positions are elected for one-year terms.
In addition to Murphy, the other two council members are Brian McCain and Hope Wilkes.
Serving as alternate council members are Michelle Hayward, first alternate; Joanna Turmel, second alternate; and Don Benner, third alternate.
The Redding Rancheria Tribal Council has broad governing responsibilities and powers. Among these are the responsibilities to establish goals, make and enforce laws, and manage the economic affairs of the Tribe.
The government of the Redding Rancheria exercises, protects and enhances the sovereign right of self-government while promoting a lasting cultural and community identity and traditions for all members of the Tribe.
