The Shasta Symphony begins its 60th concert season with "Commemoration," a 3:15 p.m. fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 1, in the Shasta College Theatre.
The concert is being sponsored by Dr. Noble and Sally Streeter in memory of their grandson, Derek Abraham.
Under the direction of Dr. Richard Allen Fiske, the concert will commemorate the life of Derek Abraham with a work dedicated to his memory-"Puck," composed by Michael Djukstrom and performed by Derek's former trumpet teacher and guest artist, Rick Leder.
Since the character of Derek Abraham was often described as akin to "Puck" from A Midsummer Night's Dream, this performance includes the well-known music by Mendelssohn and features a performance by dancers from the Redding City Ballet, directed by Cindy Michaels.
This year also marks the 200th Anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth, and the concert will conclude with his "Italian" Symphony.
Season tickets for this season's three concerts will be available through Casey Allen until Oct. 30. Allen may be contacted by calling 242-7766.
Season tickets for students and seniors are $25 while and general admission season tickets are $30. General admission for individual concerts is $12. Students and seniors are admitted for $10. Tickets may be purchased at the Shasta College box office prior to each performance, or in advance through the Cascade Theatre (www.cascadetheatre.org).
