Fall is here and it's time for the Happy Valley Citizens Patrol's famous "Chili for the Chills."
Mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Happy Valley Community Center, 5400 Happy Valley Road.
What's on the menu?
Homemade chili, of course, prepared by Jim Ray, Ron Bailey, Jim McWhorter and Denny Martineau. These gentlemen all prepare their own secret recipe ranging from sweet to medium or a little hot.
They serve it with corn bread, Cole slaw and beverages as a meal and charge $5 for adults, $3 for children between the ages of 5-12. Children younger than 5 eat free.
I can't think of a place anywhere that a family of four can go get a meal for $16.
For the person with a sweet tooth, we will have desserts on sale for $1 per slice.
Your admission fee also includes a large serving of country music provided by "Denny and Friends." My friend, Marge Jones, calls them "Triple Trouble."
We will also give away a lot of prizes. Prize tickets will sell for $1 each, or you can get six tickets for $5. You do not need to be present to win.
For those who cannot make it Nov. 6, tickets may be purchased in advance. Just call Marge Jones at 357-3829.
If you haven't seen the patrol car out and about very often, it is because our car broke down. Cottonwood Citizens Patrol has been kind enough to loan us their car, but only for two weeks each month.
We have been assigned a new car - it is old, but it is new to us - so you will soon be seeing more of us on the road.
All net proceeds from the chili feed will be used to keep the car in repair as well as pay for gas, oil and other operating expenses.
Thank you all for the support you have given the patrol through the years. If you want to join the Happy Valley Citizens Patrol, give Ermal a call at 357-3829.
Well, the farm is calling to me. I have a big project going on right now. My berries of 40 years have bit the dust, so I have been taking them out and I have 110 new plants coming. Therefore, I must end this article with reminders to recycle, volunteer and pray for rain, our country and our military.
