The West Valley boys’ swim team won their 10th straight Division II title, while the girls’ won their second straight Division II title.
Six of West Valley’s school records were broken at the meet. Matt Bohlin won the 100 fly in 57.91 and broke the school record, he would go on to also win the 200 free in 1:56.98. Teammate Kurt Sjoberg won the 100 breast in 1:03.02 and also broke the school record. Nate Espino won the 500 free in 5:18.67 and teammate Ryan Parke placed second on the 500 free in 5:19.73.
A 1:50.38 record in the 200-medley relay win by Parke, Sjoberg, Steven Jordan and Brennon Shepard; and another recording breaking win for the West Valley’s Charlie McIntosh, Parke, Espino, and Bohlin in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:34.64.
For West Valley’s girls’, Maddie Winton broke the school backstroke record in 1:04.17, taking second place at the Division II finals. The girls’ also broke the 200-medley relay record, 2:04.58 in a win, featuring Winton, Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Serna and Alex Szymanski. Winston also won the 200 free in 2:06.25.
For the U-prep girls, Sofia Prokop won the 50 free in 26.38, and was 2nd in the 100 breast in 1:14.71. Claire Pfeiffer was 2nd in the 100 free (1:01.52).
The final scores for the boys’ swim teams are West Valley 563, Winters 336, Durham 212, Willows 168, Orland 167, U-prep 91, Central Valley 85, Rio Vista 72, Anderson 72, Redding Christian 58, Gridley 36, and Mercy 6.
The final scores for the girls’ swim teams are West Valley 414, U-prep 314, Durham 263, Winters 229, Orland 166, Yreka 111, Anderson 87, Rio Vista 52, Gridley 51, Redding Christian 50, Maxwell 32, Princeton 31, and Willows 16.
On Saturday at Shasta College, the Masters swim meet was held.
The 200 boys’ relay consisted of Steven Jordan, Ryan Parke, Brennon Shepard and Kurt Sjoberg placed thrid. Parke took second in the 500 and fourth in the 200 and teammate Maddie Winton was third in the 200 free.
