Pumpkins given to students at Meadow Lane

A kindergarten student from Meadow lane heading back to class after receiving her pumpkin.

There were 550 pumpkins delivered to Meadow Lane School in Anderson on Friday, just in time for Halloween.

Rob Lien the owner of Premier Towing in Anderson and father of a student at Meadow Lane and Bob Nash the owner of Nash’s Pumpkin Ranch in Redding teamed up and donated the pumpkins to the school.

The Anderson Police and Fire Departments escorted the hundreds of pumpkins carried in on the Premier tow trucks to the front entrance of the school and the eagerly awaiting children.

Then Brad Clagg, the principal of Meadow Lane School announced each class one at a time to come forward and receive a pumpkin.

“This is my third year doing this. Bob cuts me a great deal on the pumpkins every year because he knows I’m donating them, and he donates half his cost to me,” said Lien. “In these tough times, I felt it was really important to do it this year and we appreciate all the help we received from everyone passing out the pumpkins to the kids.”

The volunteers on hand from the fire department were Captain Jason Bellinger, Fire Chief Andy Nichols, and Battalion Chief Howard Fincher. For the police department Michelle Linginfelter the school’s resource officer was there, as well as Jen Bellinger, Danielle Lien, Brianna Lien, Mike Lien, Eric Lycan, and Jay Vausse.

After passing out the pumpkins to the students at Meadow Lane, there were still many left over, so Lien and his volunteers headed to Verde Vale and Anderson Head Start to pass out the remaining pumpkins the pre-schools.
