Anderson New Tech High School is offering students the opportunity to experience a job in a field they are interested in pursuing.
"The program is still new and is available for seniors," said Katie Martinusen, the internship coordinator.
Seniors of ANTHS are required to complete a 30-hour internship. It can be one or multiple internships and certain ROP programs can count toward hours as long as it is career related.
For some seniors the careers they would like to pursue are not available in the North State, and are given the option of doing a 30-hour project instead of an internship.
"This is not a mandated requirement from the state, but it teaches kids the process of starting and finishing a project and what they will need to do in order to be self-starters in their careers," said Pat Allison, Principal of ANTHS.
Many students intern at local business in Anderson and Redding. Last year a student was paired with a neurologist and was able to watch surgeries.
"Many of the students who are a part of the program don't realize they can get paid to do things they like to do," said Eleanor Hyseil, ANTHS Counselor.
