Split Dove Season to Open Sept. 1

California's split 2009 dove season opened September 1st and will go on until September 15th, and again from November 14th through December 28th, the Department of Fish and Game announced.

The season includes white-winged and mourning doves, for which the combined bag limit is 10 birds and the possession limit is 20. Hunters can also harvest Eurasian collared-doves, which are now common in some parts of the state. There is not a daily bag limit or possession limit for this species and there will not be an open hunting season on common ground-doves, ruddy ground-doves and Inca doves.
