Teamwork pays off in tourney

Through strong play and determined teamwork, all five teams representing the A.C. United Soccer Club made it to their respective championship matches at the Mad River Redwood Classic held in Arcata and McKinleyville on August 22nd and 23rd.

The U-16 boys and the U-12 girls both posted strong showings, taking second place for their age groups.

The U-14 boys team played strong defense all weekend and had an outstanding effort from their goalkeeper. They won 3-2, 8-0, 5-1, and then defeated the Redding Kaos Arsenal in the championship game, 2-0.

The U-14 girls, coached by Brad Hinkle, did not allow a goal in the first 3 out of 4 games they played, shutting out the Paradise Sparks 1-0, the Eel River Rapids 1-0, and the Red Bluff Blast 5-0.

They tied the Palo Cedro Sting 1-1 in the final game and earned enough points in the round robin format to win the championship.

In an impressive rout to the championship, the U-16 girls played four shutout games, not allowing their opponents to score during the entire weekend.

Additionally, they out-scored their opponents 3-0, 3-0, 2-0 and posted a 2-0 shutout in the championship match against the Redding Missfits Mayhem team.
