An emergency moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries will be considered by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors at their Tuesday Sept. 15 meeting at 9 a.m., Les Baugh said Thursday.
The county has received several calls from persons interested in opening more dispensaries Baugh said, citing eight dispensaries in Redding, three in Shasta Lake City, one in Anderson and one in Cottonwood.
"We find ourselves in the same situation as (City of) Anderson was in," Baugh said, referring to the enacting of a moratorium on the dispensaries after one such business already opened.
The county's proposed moratorium comes on the heels of the opening of Your Cottonwood Collective, a medical marijuana dispensary that opened Sept. 1.
While adding that the proposal was not his own and is expected to come with staff approval, Baugh said he would seek the emergency moratorium so the board can make a legitimate decision after reviewing proper research.
He added that the research could take an additional month for staff, including Sheriff Tom Bosenko, to prepare.
The county may enact a permanent moratorium on the basis that businesses must be in compliance with both state and federal laws, Baugh said.

I have no idea why all these officials are running around like chickens with there heads cut off in a panic over these Collectives, Co-Ops, Dispensaries or whatever else you want to call them. There they go setting limits on the American people again. The majority of us have no healthcare coverage, what else are people supposed to do. I have two jobs and still do not have healthcare coverage and even if I did all those "prescribed medications" have side effects at some point and alot of the side effects are permanent like liver damage. Aspirin kills more people in a year. Marijuana deaths in a year 0. Sounds pretty obvious to me "self medicate" with nature's cure.It works for practically every ailment you can think of. You know I don't blame the missinformed people in our communities and city and town officials I blame the years and years of propaganda that started back in the 30's by our government to again control us and try to tell us whats right for ourselves. If we as patients can get the truth out maybe we can live a little easier knowing we as patients wouldn't be looked down on by our communities. why don't I see moratoriums on gas stations, bars, liquor stores, or any other business. We will not stand for this civil oppression, this is AMERICA or have alot of you forgotten that.
